hello all- haven't been on here in a while, but recently my gecko Ninja seems to be getting ill. Last week he had the first bad shed of his life. he's about 5 years old now. he had a large chunk stuck to his entire face. i removed it and all seemed well except for a slight amount of moisture on his nose. i had to leave for a work trip the next morning and wasn't able to check on him for a few days. my brother keeps him watered when i'm not around and he is only hand fed these days. his appetite has been up and down his entire life, but up until this last shed he was eating at least once a week. when i got home on friday i noticed where the wetness had been looked swollen on his nose and now today i see his upper gum is receding. any ideas on treatment? also i'm in the Denver area does anyone have a suggestion on a good vet to take him too. i'm attaching a picture from this morning of his face. any help is appreciated thank you.

Hi

Sorry your little guy is not doing good.

Question, is there a chance that you could have pulled a little skin off when you got the shed off of his face?.

Something is definitely wrong with him and he needs to get to a vet. . He should be eating more than once a week for you, everyday.

He more than likely has an internal infection going on and that swelling could be from an infection of which could affect his eating. Have the vet. check him for internal parasites as well, they also can have an affect on eating.

I had a couple of my geckos once that where shedding to frequently to me and when I had taken them to the vet. for something else, mentioned it to my vet., and he said that it was probably a skin infection and the medication he was giving me for them for something else, would also take care of that situation.

Make sure that he is getting enough calcium. You don't want to take a chance that, that gum line problem is metabolic bone disease.

But yes, you definitely need to go to the vet., this isn't something that you could go to the store and buy something to use on his problems. Vet. grade medication needed and test taken.
