Designing a biome terrarium for toad

JustAddSalt Feb 29, 2012 06:56 PM

I would like to design a naturalistic biome terrarium in a 10 gallon tank for a Great Plains toad. Anyone have any ideas? I would like to maybe construct a burrow that can be seen through the glass but I don't know if this would stress the toad out or not. Any ideas on substrate and plants?

For the burrow, you can always place dark paper over the glass and then lift it to see the frog if he's in the burrow. Wild toads seem to become tame quite quickly and will come and approach their owner in anticipation of being fed - so they don't always act "natural."

I use a soil, dried crushed leaves, sand mix for substrate. I keep my plants in pots so the toads won't dig them up. Pothos is the easiest plant to grow in these situations.

This is my Tiger Salamander setup, but I use basically the same thing for toads.
