Skin on toe won't shed?

reptilesrock Jul 30, 2013 12:04 AM

Hey everyone,

My beardy just went through a shed and all of her toes shed properly except one of them. The skin on her toe is very dull and looks ready to come off and is even starting to look a little dry and crusty near her claw. I have given her several baths to try and loosen the skin on this toe, but even when it is moistened and I try massaging the toe, the skin doesn't appear to be ready to come off. I am concerned as I don't want any retained skin to cut off her circulation and cause her to lose the toe. Why is this skin not shedding because it is dull and looks like it should be coming off? Also, what more can I do to help get the skin loosened. I've heard of people using a drop or two of dish soap in the bath water to help the skin to loosen. Any ideas??? This is a strange thing and has never happened to me before, but I am a thorough keeper and I like to make sure all the skin on my animals is shed properly. Any help is greatly appreciated as always.

Thanks.

Tough call. I would continue doing what your doing. I like the idea of mixing some soap into the bathing water. don’t stress too much and help out what you can.

If you feel there is really a risk of cutting circulation, try to remove it, or a Vet.
