because of budget cuts, it's taking up to six months to process the permits. my advice for permit applicants is that if you are thinking of getting indigos, apply now for next year. permits are good for one year and you can change who you are getting the easterns from at a later date (a bit of a pain but it's free and more than doable).
I originally called the regional office and was told "this is as close to an automatic permit as we have".
It is also interesting to note that there has been no budget cut, but a decrease of 2% in the normal increase in funding. FWS is still getting more funding than they were previously. R
I had a permit go missing. My first permit app went through no problem almost exactly 90 days.
Second one went missing in the mail so i sent another, then the first one turned up. Anyway Cam Shaw dealt with it very quickly & destroyed the second app & check.
It was probably USPS that lost the first one which finally showed up 4 months later.
good luck,
Andy.
Still waiting for my permit to come in. This thread is making me nervous on how long it will be. I am sure the .gov shutdown is going to throw a wrench in the processing machine.
I received an interstate comerce permit October 29. I applied for it mid-August. Thus, it took about a two and a half months. FWS actually e-mailed me to let me know they received my application. I have never had an issue with FWS's competence in issuing these permits and I have gotten several over the years. I do believe that the permits are not necessary. They do not help with eastern indigo conservation in any way, shape or form. FWS makes no money on the permits.
