Beni had another good visit...

Shboom Apr 19, 2012 02:17 PM

I took Beni today for another optho recheck and everything went really well. No signs of corneal damage and the tear test did went great. The pressure reading was at 10 and that was really good news as it tells me the valve is still working as it should. Dr Kern was asking about Beni and said he was looking good and asked me how old he was. He seemed surprised when I told him he was 2 months past 14 years old. He asked if he still had his hearing and I said yes he can still hear pretty well. If not for that damn catarct he could probably still see. Well actually he can still see just not shapes as he can still distinguish between light and dark.

GREAT news! Just wondering can that remove the cateract?

Beni you are just a pup at heart. Age is only a number.

Cheryl no the cataract cannot be removed. Early on in this process Beni was classified as a low vision dog due to the effects of the glaucoma. Trying to remove the cataract would have been catastrophic to Beni's good eye at a time when he could still see.

Bob, it was really good to see this post and to know that Beni is still doing well. It was also good to know that he can tell light from dark. Does that help him to avoid obstacles at all?

How are you doing these days? Sure wish all our old pals would chime in and let us know how things are!

Murphy is doing great. He's made some changes in behavior, such as now really enjoying cuddling, which we enjoy too! He's just a more responsible boy, too. The only thing he ever "bothers" are my shoes, if I forget to put them away, or get them out and am not watching.......out the dog door they go! He doesn't chew them, though, just takes them outside! Silly Boy!

Cuddling and snuggle time is nice. As for Mom's shoes, it's fun to watch her coming out to get them!

Anne no it doesn't help him to avoid obstacles but it does make him a little cautious when he is going from light to shadow.
Everything here is going as well as can be expected. Toshi seems to be showing some signs of early allergy issues but that isn't surprising given the weather he have been having.

Now that Murphy has gotten older he has gotten more lovable and that isn't a bad thing! That's a funny story about your shoes... what a good boy!!

It is wonderful that Beni continues to maintain his pressure levels and is comfortable. Good for you!
