Urgent help...

Capitalserpents Jul 26, 2008 03:51 PM

My family owns a parakeet, and while my brother was handling the bird, the bird flew from his hands into a rodent glue trap. The bird had its legs, and face stuck, so I used vegetable oil to remove the bird. I was told to use hand soap (detergent) and water to remove the oil, but the bird looks terrible even several days after the fact. It's feathers are clumped together, and the birds skin is exposed. Any advice?

I would suggest calling a local avian vet to see what they suggest. I imagine they will want you to bring the bird in for a checkup but they should also have some suggestions as to how you can get the glue off. The only things I know of that will remove that type of glue are not healthy for birds. I am sorry I can't be more help
