Possible Hissing roaches escape?

Flankie Apr 07, 2010 01:06 PM

I was thinking of getting some hissing roaches. I live in southern Tennessee. If some of these would get out, would they survive? Have been googling hissers in the US, but can't find anything on their hardiness living outside. Just don't want to get anything that could spread if they got loose.

But I kinda assume it'd already be an issue if they were to produce in the wild here in the US, since they're fairly common...

Actually it is enough of a problem that the sale and possession in some states is illegal. I'm not sure about Tenn., but I would not be surprised if it was. While they like it warm and moist, they will survive in low temps. Southern states that don't get cold enough to kill the hissers could have a population explosion of what is considered an invasive, non-indigenous species.
