ADCF with small air pocket under chin?

Enigmatic Oct 11, 2005 02:51 AM

Has anyone seen this? know what it is? I know it's not the "bloating" disease... as my last frog had the same thing, and never "floated" or become bloated anywhere else.

It's not HUGE, but it's not normal by any means. I know this for sure, because it killed my last frog.. just a week ago. And now the frog that he was with (long story about these two frogs..) now has the same air pocket under his chin. Exact same!

I've searched far and wide for answers and no one can give me anything!! It won't do him any good taking him to a vet, the vets don't know ****!!

Any suggestions? advice? anything?

Thanks!

this sounds redundant, but what is the temp, PH, etc?

How oxygenated is the water? What are you feeding?

The only possible explanation is "gas bubble" disease, but I have only heard of it with Xenopus is super oxygenated water, but I find it unlikely in your situation.

Temp is always between 75-80f. No higher, no lower.

PH is always 7.5, as i've been told to try to get 8.0. But i think 7.0-7.5 is good.

How am i supposed to know how "oxygenated" the water is?

I feed bloodworms and every now and then some brine shrimp, this is all i can get in my area.

I really don't think its the "gas bubble" disease, as i've done my own research on it. The "symptoms" are not what they have. Both of them get ONE bubble under their chin. Same spot, same size, same everything! Nowhere have I read that the bubbles form under the chin in "gas bubble" disease.. maybe i've been reading in the wrong places?

Oh.. and just a little bit of their history...

I rescued them from a grocery store, where they were being kept in a small vase, together, in a cup full of green mucky water that wreaked so bad, I couldn't carry the vase! They were in the vase with a PLANT... and ontop of it all, it was a plant not meant for water, it was rotting!!

Needless the say the chain of grocery stores is getting a pounding for animal cruelty now =-)

But this is where they came from... I also found out they were being fed FISH FOOD!

The first frog, who died, already had the bubble under his chin when I rescued him. But the other one didn't. Two days after the first one passed away (R.I.P Eridanus) the other one (named Neptune) started to form one!

I know it has everything to do with where they came from and the water they were being kept in.. it was absolutely horrible... never changed!

sorry, but Gas bubble disease is the "only" explanation i have. I hope your frog is ok.
