softshell turtle need help

soklimis Nov 04, 2005 11:25 AM

I own a softshell, approximately 1 and half years old. I've noticed lately that sometimes from the bottom of his/her (I don't Know the sex) tail a kind of dark red mash is coming out which is then going into the tail bottom after a while. The turtle does not look to suffer or to be uncomfortable. Do you have any idea about this? Is it an illness? Is it something in the digestion system?
I would deeply appreciate any help on this.

are you saying something actually comes out, or there is a change in skin color? how big is the turtle? are there any other turtles with it? is there anything common between each time it happens? like...it always happens after you feed it, it always happens when it poops, or when it is courting a tankmate, anything in common with all the times it has happended.

Thanks for the response
My turtle is approximately 12 cm (shell) all alone in the aquarium. When this happens she/he takes a curve shape and actually something comes out that is not really a mass but it seems like sea flower. Could it be that this is the genitals organs? The feces are normal and the turtle behaves OK.
Thanks again. Any idea?

thats what i think, it is a male and it is his reproductive organ. i have had a yellow bellied slider male do this at about 4" when he was with 2 very large females of the same species. it sounds like nothing to worry about.
