What Really Works for Dwarfs Cont. . .?

Colorfulcritters Dec 11, 2005 07:47 PM

What is one of the best filters for dwarfs, and since they're so small, what would you consider the most healthy food to feed them? In other words, what really works for these critters?

And could someone please provide me a good website to find really accurate care and info about dwarfs?

I use a small water pump enclosed in a tupperware container with small holes drilled in to allow water through. The container is covered with natural pea gravel and acts as an under gravel/biological filter as the water is drawn through the gravel particles are captured in the gravel. Water and gravel are siphoned once a week with a 50% water change. I keep them in a 20 gallon bow front half filled with water and planted on the back--vivarium. I feed them 1 to 2 times a week frozen blood worms and sometimes fruit flies. They've survived for a couple of years.

Any kind of regular aquarium filter of the appropriate size that is not too powerful can be uses for African dwarfs. I use a Tetra Whisper 10i.
The best food is sinking shrimp pellets as the majority of their diet. Daphnia, shrimp/krill, small fish, and bloodworms can also be fed as a lesser proportion of the diet. Bloodworms should only be fed sparingly.
They should be fed about every day.

I am currently working on a care sheet for these guys. I give it too you once I finish it.
