It does take an investment in time, money and emotions to care for a reptile long enough for it to grow up to a large size. The connection that pet owners have to their pets is a powerful motivator to do the right thing. A better understanding of what conditions/behaviors that lead up to pet dumping is important. I would think those organizations that truly care about the welfare of the animals would look to support the pet owner at risk.
