Guezz give it up. In all papers, all books, and one talk that showed many wild females nesting(in minn.), All say, the same as I see here. preferred habitat is Sandy soils. Look it up please. You do understand that reptiles are broken down to habitat type. Such terms as mesic and xeric. or Riparian or arid, etc. each habitat type has species evolved to those types. Some species are obligated to certain habitats very tightly, others cover a few types, Hogs seem to be specific and adapted to mesic habitats of sandy loaming areas. Look it up. Also please understand, you can use what ever you want. For darn sakes, use what you want. But that will not stop me from recommending what I think is good. If you nest them well in a pea can of turnip greens, all the better. But that has nothing to do with me.
