I would generously say that he has only seen and studied about 1% of the entire range that westerns live and thrive in. This makes his data useless at this point except for those in his area. With a sample size that small its reckless to tout it as a universal fact from a few pictures.

Let's turn this around a bit. Have him prove that hogs never use sphagnum moss or anything else as a medium to live in other than sand. Show me pics of every single hog in nature on nothing but sand? All the way from FRs house to Canada.
