I highly disagree with your suggestion that the snake will do a better job of propagating in the wild. there are predators out there, not to mention motor vehicles and other dangers. The best a snake can be expected to do in the wild is produce two offspring that make it to sexual maturity and a successful surviving pair of it's own. If they did any better than that, you would find the population rapidly increasing. That's just not gonna happen around here. Captive breeding provides a much higher chance of offspring making it to maturity. Releasing them at that point would give them a much better chance of survival. I have been involved in several captive breeding and habitat regeneration programs for a few animals that are "at risk" with some success. One sub species would certainly be extinct by now without the intervention.

I know this is a breeders forum and I understand that breeders generally do not want more breeders to compete with, thus are not likely to welcome or educate newcomers. if you don't have helpful information, just don't say anything and please don't insult me by trying to blow smoke up my butt.
