Tge two females retained their eggs because i did not keep track of and maintain the conditions in the nest cage. From the outside, the looked fine. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that the soil conditions were not correct. It was my error that caused the egg binding in both females. So yes, you can screw up large, deep nesting too. And Jonny, I can quarantee you that people who use shallow nesting with sphagnum moss will have a much higher failure rate than 2 out of 30 females.
